For the first time ever, the new and quirky comedy Meteor Shower comes to San Diego. Set with a cast of brilliant actors and a writer who knows a thing or two about knee-slapping comedy, this fresh play has all of the right elements to be a hilarious sensation.
The Old Globe and Long Wharf Theatre proudly present their collaborative efforts in bringing to the stage Steve Martin’s intriguing new comedy Meteor Shower as it premiers worldwide. The greatly anticipated play revolves around two couples in a backyard watching the passing meteor shower in each other’s company. Couple Norm and Corky’s seemingly typical marriage begins to reveal it’s true form as the duo invite fellow married couple, Gerald and Laura, over for a dinner party beneath the sky of the falling meteors. However, the evening won't be anything remotely close to a domestic dinner party with a couple of married friends as emotions are on high and the night goes hilariously off-kilter. With bantering and absurd humor, playwright Steve Martin takes creative jabs at the modern marriage and the discrepancies that may be stirred up at a dinner party.
This whacky comedy will come to The Old Globe beginning July 30th and running until September 18th. Performed on the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, the theatre’s unique in-the-round arena style stage gives the audience an inclusive feel to the antics of the characters throughout the play.
If you’re curious about getting into the heads of the characters—and the talented actors and actresses who play them, there are a handful of events that will enable you to do just that. Post-show forums and insight seminars will answer all of your performance questions and more with members of the cast and crew personally taking questions.

The Old Globe Meteor Shower
Creative genius, Steve Martin is not a name one forgets, with many film credits and awards for his brilliance on and off camera over the past decades. Incorporating his knack for laughter and innovative comedic exploration, Martin’s playwright skills in Meteor Shower will be on full display. Although known primarily for his work in film, Martin has built an impressive and successful career in theatre as a playwright. Beginning in 1969, Martin was first recognized for his work in writing "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" with an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing Achievement in Comedy, Variety or Music. Writing novels, stand up comedy, and even composing music, Martin has pushed the limits of achievement.
The cast and crew bringing this production to life have an abundance of artistic freedom to perform the world debuting piece. Director Gordon Edelstein has been utilizing his talents at the Long Wharf Theatre as Artistic Director for the past 15 years. Before this he spent 5 years as Artistic Director of A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle. Edelstein works with an amazing cast of four actors and actresses, all with strong theatre and even film backgrounds. Jenna Fischer—a name you might recognize from the popular television program, The Office—plays opposite Greg Germann as Corky and Norm, the outrageous couple who host the evening’s festivities. The couple’s friends are played by Alexandra Henrikson and Josh Stamberg as Laura and Gerald.
Without even premiering, Meteor Shower has already been extended twice due to popular demand. Tickets are going fast; don't miss out on The Old Globe's newest production!
