As the holiday season approaches, preparing for guests in your home can feel like a daunting task. For those hosting family members for the duration of their stay, this can be stressful, especially if your guest room has become an outdated ‘catch-all’ and is in need of an upgrade.
But preparing their space doesn’t have to be complicated. By adding a few staple pieces, focusing on comfort, and implementing simple design principles, you can easily create a lush holiday experience for your guests.
Clear the clutter
Many of us use our guest space as a second storage space when the family isn’t staying with us. While this may be convenient, it’s important to clear out all unnecessary clutter from a guest room before adding any new decor or linens to keep your room looking put together.
Making a luxurious experience means leaving ample room for guests to store their belongings freely, just like a hotel or home rental. So emptying drawers, closets, and yes, even under the bed leaves your room feeling open and welcoming for a visitor’s stay.
Make it extra cozy
Your spare room should remain well-heated for guests during their stay. Try adding a column radiator for a stylish touch to your everyday heating unit. Hang soft velvet curtains to both insulate and elevate large windows.
Invest in an extra plush duvet, pillows, and a soft towel set just for visitors. Another layer of cushioning for your guest’s bed is also a good idea.
Comfort is the epitome of luxury, and creating a room with a warm and inviting atmosphere will leave a lasting impression on your guests. Adding these small but cozy amenities can make a room feel extra memorable.
Choose a grand aesthetic
There are dozens of ways you can design a space to feel more expensive and exclusive. Choosing an interior design aesthetic allows you to stay cohesive in your furnishings, accessories, and color scheme. Consider three examples of rich design themes that can amp up the feel of your accommodation room:
Victorian - A classic nod to nostalgic luxury. Embodying the grand 19th-century tastes, this design includes large rooms, ornate wallpaper with intricate patterns, and bold gemstone colors. Canopy beds and thick curtains are staples in this design.
Modern Chic - Combining elements of minimalism with artistic features, this contemporary style uses clean and open spaces with intentional pops of gentle tones like earthy greens and pastels. Large light fixtures with warm bulbs and abstract art pieces are subtle but bold, accents to include for these rooms.
French Countryside - This design combines principles similar to Victorian interiors with a traditional farmhouse look for a rustic, elevated space. Think antique furniture pieces, soft blues, neutrals, porcelain, and weathered wooden planks. Try adding a delicate but intricate jewelry box on a vanity, or look for linens with small floral patterns.
Accents and artwork
Luminous touches and small accents can really bring a room together. Brassy light fixtures are a great addition, as they add a polished look while allowing golden light to reflect off of the metal fixture. If you prefer cooler tones, a brushed chrome lamp creates a similar effect as long as you choose softer bulbs.
Be sure to include some artistic pieces for empty walls. For a unique composition, consider visiting a local gallery or art festival and purchasing paintings directly from artists in your hometown. You’ll have a one-of-a-kind installation for your guests and help support the arts in your local community.
You don’t need gaudy furniture or massive beds to create an extravagant experience for your friends and family.
Making your guest space gorgeous is a breeze, especially if you add simple additions that focus on relaxation and the comforts that are most important. By creating a luxurious getaway room, you can have peace of mind guests will fully enjoy their stay in your home.
